Live Shows to look forward to.

Looking forward to shows is so much better than looking back on shows. Yes of course, looking back on shows allows us to reflect on times gone by and the wish for those "good old days" to return. But the looking forward to new live shows, new books, new films, new music, new times is infinitely better. What new dreams may come? What amazing never-before-seen thing will happen?

*if you have any of the above machines you can disregard the need for looking forward or looking back.

Well, let me tell you, that if you aren't THERE to ACTUALLY see the NEW thing that happens LIVE, you just HEAR about it SECOND HAND. Second hand might be okay when we're talking about finding a cool pair of second hand pants but when we are talking about a mind-blowing live show... you really had to be there. The good news is, there's still time, remember, I'm talking about shows in THE FUTURE not shows in THE PAST. Get to the live shows and EXPERIENCE the moments.

9PM the Comedy Knights FREE comedy show. The improv show this week at the Comedy Knights show at the King’s Head has special guest John B Lowe performing with Stephen Sim of CRUMBS. John B Lowe is the Education Director at PTE and has performed with Die Nasty (Edmonton’s celebrated and long running improvised soap opera) as well as having a nice list of TV and Film credits including a role on Tiny Plastic Men and MVP Most Valuable Primate, yes you read that correctly. Thursday, Dec 4th at the Park Theatre

The Pechakucha Volume 20 will be happening and for some reason it looks like my name is listed as one of the presenters... I guess this means I will be doing the pechakucha. What is that? Well it is 20 slides of 20 seconds each. It as started in Japan (which is why it has that Japanese sounding name) and now it has gone global. I'm terrified and looking forward to the challenge.

The very last taping of the Winnipeg TV show The Week Thus Far. They have been doing their live-to-tape TV show for ShawTV for years. CRUMBS has been on their show as a guest more times than anyone, so it feels right to be on their last show and help Winnipeg say goodbye.

It's getting close to that time when the leaves change colour and fall off the trees. We cozy up and get ready for the winter. Here's some ways to stay warm.

CRUMBS has been making radio live on Mondays for almost a decade. We've won numerous made-up awards for report the news that most media companies are afraid to touch and we've broadcasted into your homes. We are now reaching out during the UMFM Pledge-o-rama which is a pledge drive for our listeners to put their money where their ears are and support the amazing radio that 101.5 UMFM has been delivering for years.

Jane and Robyn are both in Outside Joke and have been killing the improv scene with their improv musical style show for years (years before a lot of these other improv musical shows have been doing it btw).

TiL stands for Today I Learned... which will be a special Comedy Knights showcase show of "jokes worth spreading". This TED inspired parody/satire/actual lecture of information. The comedy community in Winnipeg is not only hilarious, we are also a deep well of valuable information and we all do have "jokes worth spreading". Show up for hilarity and education and more hilarity and then some more knowledge.

CRUMBS says it's almost Summer

Summer is finally rearing it's gorgeous head here in Winnipeg and CRUMBS is busy doing all the CRUMBS things. That includes, but is not limited to:

1.

Lee White putting the finishing touches on the Euro Touro. With stops to be made in London for a festival and some shows with Rene Dellefont with a CRUMBS and Dad's Garage co-production.

2.

Stephen Sim gearing up for the Fringe Festival with CRUMBS again back at the King's Head and with the Big Stupid Improv Show at MTYP. But Stephen has been busy with other things too, there are more shows in the near future to get all excited by. Here are some of them...

Comedy Knights is still happening every Tuesday for FREE at the King's Head and this Tuesday, June 3rd is the Recital Show for the Stand-ups who have been taking improv workshops with Stephen. They've been doing such a swell job, you should come to the show and see just how hilarious funny people can be when they are free to make it up.

A collaboration with the Spoken Word Festival at the Gas Station Arts Centre. The Thursday, June 5th show will feature spoken works artists (which is a fancy way of saying poets) performing their "thing" with improvisers (which is a fancy way of saying "lazy actor/comedians") performing their thing. The poems will inspire the improvs, the improvs will inspire the poets and everything will be so inspiring that the whole audience will probably just laugh, cry and melt into beauty.

Of course keep tuning in to the CRUMBS radio show on 101.5 UMFM every Monday at 5pm CST for amazing guests saying amazing things. We've been having some pretty good guests on the show lately (With Lee being on tour). Here are some of the past guests in picture form.

CRUMBS will be back at the King's Head for the Fringe. The Big Stupid Improv Show will be at the wonderful MTYP. Those shows are shows you want to see. But there are sooooo many shows to see at the Fringe. FRAZ will be premiering his new show (produced, dramaturged and directed by Stephen Sim), as well as Outside Joke doing their show, DnD Improv, Rumble Pak doing their show, Parking Lots doing their show, Bill Pats doing a new show, JD Renaud doing a new show… there are just so many shows.

Fringe is a wonderful time.

April Flowers

I was told there would be flowers, April Flowers, but here I am riding on top of a March Lion, a March Lion that was supposed to "morph" into some sort of lamb-like creature. Oh well, if we humans didn't have the weather to complain about, I'm sure we'd find something else.

So April in Winnipeg means the Winnipeg Comedy Festival, and here we are fresh from having the festival stain Winnipeg with hilarity and comedic wonderment. I did get to hang out with some comedy folks (here's some photographic proof). Winnipeg was the funniest place on the planet for a week and we still have the strength to muster some more funny. Funny has not yet died. Here are some shows to enjoy.

On Tuesday we can look forward to another show brought to you by the Comedy Knights at the King's Head. The show will be CRUMB & Friends. The CRUMB will be Stephen Sim (as Lee White is still on tour in Europe) and the Friends will be: RobYn Slade, Jane Testar, Andrea del Campo, Gordon Tanner and Cory Wojcik. You can always look forward to free comedy at the King's Head on a Tuesday, so we'll always see you there.

On Friday we can look forward to another Winnipeg Stand-up showcase at the Park Theatre featuring a gaggle of handsome/funny comics standing in front of a mic stand, spinning hilarious yarns for the masses.

On Saturday we can look forward to Outside Joke's show at the Gas Station Theatre. The show will feature guests from Edmonton's Rapid Fire Theatre performing a "Theatresports-esque-Trademark-Free" competitive improv match (hosted by the ever writing this paragraph Stephen Sim). Get Tickets!

As we look back on a successful week of comedy for Winnipeg we can all thank the lovely and hard working folks at the Gas Station Arts Centre for putting together an amazing festival.

Highlights? Okay...

Bill Pats did his new show directed by Bruce Clark and then he was able to go to an after party at Moxie's (see his show to understand how amazing this truly is)

Tom Green and I both learned that we both went to Middle School (Junior High School) together. We might have even played street hockey, skateboarded and played 1941 at the Mac's together.

Did some improv with some fine Edmonton folks, which I hadn't done in a long time. We did a Dr Who inspired improv show that was filled with silly fun times. Very good to hang out and play with the cast of The Irrelevant Show.

I was able to reveal myself as the mysterious "ID guy voice" for DNTO in the live show at the Gas Station Arts Centre. Such a fun show. The true stories were truly great, the music was great, and having to re-do the credits at the end because I mispronounced the name of my boss was great.

I learned that Elvira Kurt pronounces her name El-veera Kurt. Who know (the answer is everybody... also, who knew that someone introducing artists could mispronounce so many people's names).

Being immersed in the stand-up comedy world and seeing Winnipeg engulfed in comedy was amazing. Seeing local Winnipeg comics hold their own, and sometimes even hold themselves up high, was also wonderful.

CRUMBS in Febrruarry

CRUMBS always gets a little baffled in February. The weirdly pronounced month, hence the spellling mistake in the title. But fear not, we have cold snaps in Winnipeg, but we also have IMPROV SNAPS!

First, CRUMBS would like to thank everyone for coming out to the show at the King's Head. It was certainly a fun show, filled with flaming horses, the wild west, genealogy, DNA, immortality, blood transfusions and a whole lotta laughs.

Second, CRUMBS would love love love to see you all at the Gas Station Theatre for the upcoming show/party that CRUMBS is putting together on Sat, Feb 22nd. The show will not only feature the improv you have grown to love and expect, we've also invited some of Winnipeg's stand-up comics to give you a taste of some comedy told standing up and into a mic. We're also going to have the musical wizardry of Leif (who is known for his musicianship with Outside Joke and The D&D Improv Show).

Just because CRUMBS are now away in the land of Europe spreading the good word of improv and theatre and comedy to all the Europeans doesn't mean there isn't important things happening back at home in Winnipeg. Oh no, quite the opposite.

101.5 UMFM is having their 2nd annual Pledge-O-Rama to raise funds to keep supplying Winnipeg and the world with top quality radio. Radio that just happens to include a weekly dose of CRUMBS. For almost 10 years CRUMBS have been producing and airing a live radio show on Mondays. When CRUMBS are actually in Winnipeg, you can hear them live on Mondays at 5pm on 101.5 UMFM.

The King's Head is still your home of amazingly hilariously awesome comedy shows. Every Tuesday there is a FREE comedy show upstairs at the King's Head Pub. The show starts at 9pm and rotates between improv and stand-up comedy and improv and comedy comedy. So much comedy.

While CRUMBS is away, Outside Joke is at the King's Head making sure the improv still gets "made up".

Outside Joke also has other improv fish to fry... can I say that? Can I say "other improv fish to fry"? What I mean to say is that Outside Joke is also producing a season of shows at the Gas Station Arts Centre including a series of workshops.

While CRUMBS takes some much needed  time this summer to re-group, to recover from the amazing Fringe Festival and to do live radio sometimes on 101.5 UMFM (Every Monday live at 5pm CST). We'll just let you watch these improv videos about improv that are pretty much the best.

Recently, CRUMBS sent out Stephen Sim to do a TEDx talk about improv at the TEDxManitoba event. His hope was to do one half as good as Dave Morris (a CRUMBS friend and colleague) did when he did a TEDx talk about improv. Enjoy the improv minds.

CRUMBS is Soooooooooo damn excited for some upcoming shows. We simply must tell you all over again about them.

Our good friends The National Theatre of the World (known as NTOW) are traveling from the comforts of Toronto to the icy wonderland of Winnipeg to do some shows at the Winnipeg Jewish Theatre (knows as WJT). They will be performing Jan 25th - 29th. They do a show called Impromptu Splendor that has them improvising a show in a theatrical style, and they are great. They are so great that they have invited CRUMBS to perform with them on Thursday, Jan 26th, the show will be in the style of HAROLD PINTER and it will be great. So great in fact, that you should go see the show.

While our good friends NTOW are in Winnipeg, we decided to also put on a special midnight show of NTOW + CRUMBS for everyone to see. We are doing the show on Friday, Jan 27th at the ECC (which is at 75 Albert Street). The show will only be $5 (which is way way too cheap) but the show will be starting at MIDNIGHT SHARP (latecomers will be charged $10, which is still soooo cheap). Get there early folks, early!

CRUMBS continues to do our regular shows at the King's Head Pub as part of the ongoing and super awesome FREE LAUGHS comedy shows. The first show will Tuesday, Feb 7th at 9pm and Tuesday, Feb 21st at 9pm. These shows are always a good time and always free and always a double good time.

CRUMBS doesn't only do strange guest shows and free shows, oh no, we also do shows at REAL theatres for ACTUAL MONEY! We will be putting on our annual Berlin or Bust improv show at the Gas Station Arts Centre on Saturday, Feb 18th at 8pm. The tickets will be only $10 and advance tickets will be on sale at our regular CRUMBS shows (see above postings). This show is the fundraiser show we put on every year before we head off on our European Tour! Come on down and support us by laughing at us (we would love that).

And life returns to normal

So the past little while has been quite busy in the land of CRUMBS. What with returning from New Zealand and then doing some time on a movie set and then launching right into the Winnipeg if... Improv Festival. It is going to be nice to really just focus on the regular shows and workshops that we do.
-Yes we still do a weekly radio show on 101.5 UMFM on Mondays at 5pm. You can download the podcasts here.

-Yes we teach improv workshops at Prairie Theatre Exchange and in most High Schools (the cool ones anyways).

-Yes we do our regular shows at the King's Head Pub as part of the Free Laughs Comedy Series every Tuesday night (1st and 3rd Tuesdays are the CRUMBS nights)

-Yes we are starting to do the private Christmas party shows for all the businesses that are smart enough to book us while we still have time.

-Yes we are putting together some special shows at the Gas Station Theatre (which is inside the Gas Station Arts Centre now called the G-Sac!) in February and March 2011!

-Yes we are going to be producing the Big Stupid Improv show and CRUMBS at the 2011 Fringe Festival this July.

-Yes we are going to be touring Europe again this spring.

-Yes it looks like we are just as busy as we have ever been... who needs sleep right?

If you ever get the chance, buy a button and get your picture drawn.

The Sex Pistols have released a perfume. Yes, I am talking about the same Sex Pistols who have been famous for being a punk rock band in the 70's. It turns out they have decided to turn their backs on what it means to be punk and have thrown their gloves into the capitalist ring. But if we dig deep into the origin of the Sex Pistols we aren't really surprised to learn that they actually formed as a sort of commercial for a clothing store... So it isn't that crazy after all.

What is new to Manitoba? Jellyfish! We finally have them after so many years of being jellyfish free and being jealous of all the other countries who have this pesky little slime bag.

What is coming to Winnipeg? The Bodies exhibition. Ladies and Gentlemen, being someone who has actually seen this exhibit before, I can say that it is amazing. This is your chance to see what the inside of a human body looks like without going to jail or medical school (I hear that both can be quite unpleasant).

And of course, what Winnipeg radio show or blog would be complete without a mention of our sweet Mayor Sam Katz kicking ass, or in this case, kicking a small child in the face.
