Today I Learned

Winnipeg successfully hosted the very first TiL show this Tuesday, Nov 4th at the King's Head Pub as part of the ongoing Comedy Knights comedy series.

TiL is a comedy show inspired by the TED talks we love so much. TiL stands for Today I Learned and aims to be as packed with information as it is packed with hilarity.

The show featured some of Winnipeg's brightest minds and hosted by Stephen Sim. He will be fresh from Emceeing the TEDxUManitoba event all day at the University of Manitoba, so you know he'll be all hopped up on TED and ready for the TiL show.

Tim Gray = Relationship Advice
JD Renaud = Robocop
Robyn Slade = Buzzwords
Caitlin Curtis = Dogs Will Be Dogs
Andrea del Campo = Depression Era Home Economics
Andrew Lizotte = Science vs Magic
Cathy Hebert = Carbon footprint
Ryan Ash = How to Make the Internet a Nicer Place

Join us this Tuesday, and every single Tuesday, for a FREE comedy show at the King's Head Pub.

Jokes Worth Sharing

This show is inspired by TED of course as well as a show that has been running in Toronto for years called Trampoline Hall as well as a one-time TED talk parody that happened in Vancouver called KEN

IMPROV explained!

While CRUMBS takes some much needed  time this summer to re-group, to recover from the amazing Fringe Festival and to do live radio sometimes on 101.5 UMFM (Every Monday live at 5pm CST). We'll just let you watch these improv videos about improv that are pretty much the best.

Recently, CRUMBS sent out Stephen Sim to do a TEDx talk about improv at the TEDxManitoba event. His hope was to do one half as good as Dave Morris (a CRUMBS friend and colleague) did when he did a TEDx talk about improv. Enjoy the improv minds.

And here is Dave Morris.

CRUMBS is an international improv duo from Winnipeg that first formed in 1997. They have been touring all over the world with their stripped down lo-fi improv comedy theatre show. They've also been known to perform stand-up comedy, sketch comedy, write, direct, produce and be awesome. They also are lucky enough to be able to perform with Dj Hunnicutt, who happens to be an amazing Dj that really "gets it".

The next places to see CRUMBS:

CRUMBS will be going on tour in Europe in the fall of 2012. So you can go see their shows there if you want to.

After they get back home in Winnipeg you'll want to catch one (or all) of their shows at the King's Head on Tuesday nights.

CRUMBS will also be returning to the FREE LAUGHS Comedy Shows. The shows are FREE and at 9:00 PM every single Tuesday night at the King's Head Pub.
The shows rotate between improv, stand-up comedy, sketch comedy, alternative concept comedy and other hilarious hilarious comedy.
All you have to know is that every Tuesday at the King's Head Pub there is a FREE COMEDY show!

You can also tune in to the CRUMBS radio show on 101.5 UMFM. The show is live every Monday at 5:00 PM CST. You can tune in on your old fashioned radio to 101.5 FM. You can tune in on your futuristic computer type machine at LISTEN ONLINE. Or you can lazily download the podcast at PODCASTS.

Awe, thanks for reading all of this.

FREE LAUGHS Holiday Special

So yeah,

Every single Tuesday you can be guaranteed COMEDY at the King's Head as part of the ongoing and going Free Laughs Comedy Series. You already know the show is free, you already know the show is the hottest and best comedy show in Winnipeg, you already know that it rotates between CRUMBS + Comedy Loser + CRUMBS & Friends + ShitZ N GiggleZ... But did you know that the show on Dec 29th is our Holiday Special? And did you know that it will feature all of the shows that rotate and will feature an improv set at the end that will feature all your favourite folks... Well you do now.

I apologize for the picture, but hey the holidays are sometimes about getting those things out.

the facebook event is here

CRUMBS shows and stuff like that.

So this blog isn't only a way to advertise shows... but i guess it really is.

CRUMBS has 2 exciting shows on the horizon. Let me explain...

1) Tuesday, Dec 15th at the King's Head 9pm (free)
The Facebook event is here

2) Friday, Dec 18th at the Gas Station Theatre 11:30pm ($10/$5)
The Facebook event is here

1) Tue Dec 15th
First up we have the CRUMBS & Friends show that is happening as part of the ongoing Free Laughs Comedy Series that happens at the King's Head (every single Tuesday at 9pm blah blah blah you know this) what makes this installment exciting is our "friends" our "special guests" are non other than Alix Sobler & Tricia Cooper.

Alix Sobler hails from New York City, met a man on her Fringe Festival touring and moved to Winnipeg. That doesn't stop her from burning up stages and burning up scripts (this might be confusing, allow me to explain, Alix writes a mean script and performs live as well).

Tricia Cooper was a cast member of the legendary Winnipeg sketch troupe The Royal Lichtenstein Theatre Company. They did many a hilarious comedy show here and on tour. They even got their own special on CBC. She has also been known to make people laugh on her own too.

2) Fri Dec 18th

Secondly, we have the SIM, SLADE, WHITE & McINTYRE show. This show is huge, this show is epic, this show is not to be missed. The original version was way back in 1996 and was called "SLADE, McINTYRE, SIM & WHITE" and was not only a kind of rite of passage for the "SIM" and the "WHITE" it was also one of the first improv shows for Canadian improv players Michal Grajewski, Aaron Merke and Bob Banks (who can now be seen performing in Toronto and Vancouver as part of such groups as Projectproject and Ghost Jail Theatre).

This show is possible because Robert Slade is in town (from London England) performing in the MTC Mainstage show and happens to be in town (lucky us). Stephen McIntyre and Robert Slade are the reason why improv in Winnipeg is so good, let alone why it even exists.

It also should be mentioned that before the show on the 18th there is another show you should check out. On Friday, Dec 18th at 8pm there is a show called "SKetches & Doodles" that is a sketch comedy show produced by "The Gray Area of Comedy". This sketch show will feature live and video sketches (and will feature RobYn Slade, who just happens to be Robert Slade's daughter). If you go to this show and keep your ticket stub, you will get into the late show for only $5 (good deal).

The Sketches & Doodles Facebook event page is here

Please enjoy all these shows responsibly

CRUMBS at the King's Head

CRUMBS is again doing the FREE LAUGHS comedy series at the King's Head pub on Tuesdays.
As you may know (or should know) every single Tuesday night at 9pm there is a comedy show at the King's Head and this comedy show just happens to be the best darned comedy show that the city has to offer. The show rotates between:

1st TUE
CRUMBS with DJ Hunnicutt and the World Class improv that has been blowing minds across the globe for years and years and years... You know it, you love it, you need it.

2nd TUE
Comedy Loser with Ryan McMahon, which is the solo comedy stylings of monologues and characters, multi-media and video... very cool show.

3rd TUE
CRUMBS & Friends also with DJ Hunnicutt, this time more of a jam show that has CRUMBS doing improv with very special guests.

4th TUE
Shitz 'N Gigglez, the Stand-up comedy show hosted by John B Duff. Canada's next top comics give you the love on the mic in that classic comedy way.

Folks...

So c'mon down to the King's Head and let the FREE LAUGHS warm you as you hang out with good people, drink fine beverages and munch on fine foods. It is always a good time and it is the best live comedy the city has to offer.

CRUMBS likes Mike Fly

Have I told you about how awesome Mike Fly is? Mike Fly is awesome. We met him in Winnipeg, but he was from Regina, then he moved to Vancouver, then he moved to Toronto. Who knows where he is today. What I can tell you is that he has been doing the IMP, which is an Improv Monologue Project. He whisks you away with him (like you are on a secret mission) gives you a prop, takes to an undisclosed location, and then you improvise a monologue there. He posts it, and magic happens.

Above is Stephen's example, below is Lee's example. I suppose that is obvious though huh? Check them out, then subscribe to his site and watch them all. Really, you should watch them all.
